One of the earliest references to steam baths was noted in the ancient medical text, the Ayurveda (ayu—life; veda—knowledge of), written in Sanskrit in 568 BC; the steam bath was prescribed as a health measure. The intense combination of heat and moisture generated by a steam shower boosts circulation to the skin and promotes perspiration, drawing out impurities from the body. The indulgent warmth of steam will rapidly de-stress the body and relieve all muscle tension. Steam will also add moisture to dry skin, making it look smoother and younger.
